Discuss How to handle compost in the winter?

Does anyone have a good idea for handling compost in the winter months, when the composter is inaccessible due to snow?
One idea is to use temporary storage in a large container, kept somewhere like the garage. I'm not sure if this is ideal though, since a container like this wouldn't have circulation.
Thoughts?
