Plastic retail bags--when is enough enough and "free" not free? They're petroleum based and take 1,000 years to decompose in landfills. I've been carrying my own reusable canvas bags since January 1 (my New Years' resolution), and can't imagine how many plastic bags I have not used. BYOB--Bring Your Own Bags! It's hip, slick and cool.

I completely agree. There are also even real advantages of reusable bags over plastic, aside from the sustainability: they don't break near as easily. Maybe not a huge deal when driving to the store, but whenever I walk it's much better to carry reusables.

Also, the frustrating thing about them not increasing in use quicker is that it's not hard. I'd go as far as saying it's zero effort. The only effort involved is remembering to bring them, or always have them available, which easily becomes habit after a few days.
