We're always looking for new ideas for sustainable actions to add to the list and calculator.
A few we have in the works are:
- Electric vs. Push vs. Gas Lawn Mowers
- Adjusting Thermostat Temperature
- Fixing Home Energy Leaks
Let us know of any new ones you would like to see!
Thanks,

I just mowed the lawn- with your basic push and the blades twirl from your own power type of lawn mower. Even though it is a small lawn, it was a bit of an effort and I found myself wondering if I really should go out and get a 'real' lawnmower. Popping by the discussion page here and seeing it you want to but that as a sustainable action is a little motivating and helps me remember the merits of my lawnmower fueled by my own power.
I'm curious, since I'm considering getting a push mower myself when my electric one dies: are you using a "modern" push mower or an older one? The ones I see in the stores look pretty fancy compared to the older ones that were just a cylinder, basically. I have a lot of slopes on my lawn and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing with a push mower.
It's an old fashioned push mower. It works pretty good on the back yard which is flat, but the slopes on the front yard are a little more challenging.
In response to the original post, I'd like to see something about food choices- specifically buying local, eating in season, and processing seasonal produce through canning or freezing.
